Hi Folks !
Last Friday I had the best striped bass fishing of the whole year ! It was like the reports of the fishing off Provincetown at the beginning of this season. Its true that as a whole, the striper fishing off Chatham and the Islands has sucked this year. My best day this year previously had been 6 decent keeper bass from the rips that I usually have catches of a dozen to 20 or more a trip. Last Friday and Saturday our charters caught at least 35 striped bass on their trips. Saturday we tuna fished and yesterday we again were on the stripers with another great trip of throwing back 20-30 pound bass.
With the passing of the full moon (8/29) and the respective big tides, I expect the tuna fishing to improve considerably. It has been very hit or miss in the last week for me at least, with catching a nice fish one day and then not getting a bite the next from the same area. It has been frustrating to say the least. I am off today and then back to bluefin tuna charters the next few days. The amount of bait and whales east of Chatham is phenomenal, I think the fishing could bust wide open in the next week as the tides subside.
Soon we will be headed to the offshore grounds in pursuit of the giant bluefin for sale to Japan sushi houses and we will then stop doing the recreational charters. If you would like to participate in one of These “BUCKET LIST” outings, send me an email describing your wishes and if conditions are right, I will consider taking a multi-day charter targeting only these giant bluefin tuna.
