Great White Shark Research Update with Dr. Greg Skomal

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, MA will be hosting Dr. Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Shark Research Program on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at 6:30 pm. Doors open for wine & hors d’ourves at 6pm.

Dr. Skomal is in year 3 of a 5 year first of its kind population study of great white sharks in the Western North Atlantic. Over the last 2 years 169 great white sharks have been identified and he will be presenting his latest findings from this season’s exciting encounters.

Dr. Skomal is an accomplished marine biologist, charismatic speaker and senior fisheries biologist with Massachusetts Marine Fisheries since 1987. He currently heads up the Massachusetts Shark Research Program as well as directing the scientific research on Great White Sharks off the coast of Cape Cod for the last 6 years.

This presentation will be held at the Museum on Tuesday, September 27th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Doors will open for wine and cheese at 6 pm.

The presentation is $25 per person. All proceeds will benefit Dr. Skomal’s research via the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy and the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History’s education programs.

Maritime Ghosts and Seafaring Spirits with Roxie Zwicker

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Maritime Ghosts and Seafaring Spirits with Roxie Zwicker, founder of New England Curiosities Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 1pm.

Some of the most dramatic legends and ghost stories come from New England’s seafaring history and maritime past. Roxie’s presentation takes guests on a voyage all along the scenic New England Coast, from points in Rhode Island to the beaches of Cape Cod and north to the rockbound landscape of New Hampshire and Maine. Tales of incredible shipwrecks and pirates from Colonial days are also included as well as dramatic accounts of haunted lighthouses, fierce storms, lonely ghost ships and mysterious forgotten islands are told on this virtual tour.

Roxie Zwicker has been sharing her stories of New England Legends and Lore since 1993. Her lectures and speaking engagements have captivated guests, business groups and organizations throughout New England. So, join us and set sail with this presentation for a ghostly adventure!

Blood Drive at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster, MA will host the Cape Cod Healthcare Blood Mobile to benefit the Cape Cod Healthcare Blood Center, the lifeblood of Cape Cod, Thursday, October 13, 2016 10am-4pm.

The healthcare system on Cape Cod needs 10,000 pints of blood every year, but only 3,500 pints come from local donations. The other 6,500 must be purchased off-Cape at about $280 a pint.

Every pint of blood donated will stay on Cape Cod to serve our community and save the lives of friends, family and neighbors.
