Blues & Bass in the Bay

BluefishWell, as Summer winds down, there is still some great fishing to be had. The Cape Cod Bay is full of big Bluefish and Stripers. Whether or not you enjoy eating Blues, they are pound for pound, one of the best fighting fish in Cape waters. Some of these fish that are being pulled into the boats are beasts, up to 20 pounds AND BIGGER!! There are lots of nice keeper Bass mixed in the schools as well.

They have rounded the Race and are filling into the southern parts of the Bay, many being found along the Eastham shores and around the Target Ship and the three and five-cans. Big numbers have been found also off Barnstable Harbor and Sandy Neck, along with some hefty Striped Bass in the mix. This area can be hit or miss, but when they are there, the move in in numbers. Jigging with tube and worm is the tried-and-true method most of the charter boats use, but the fish can also be landed using Hootchies trolled on leadcore of wire line in the deeper water and mono in the shallows. Most of the fish are being found on the incoming tides. Live eels are a good bet if on the water at night. Whether its live bait or lures and line, The Goose Hummock Shop can get you set up.

Many of the charters boats are showing some open days, so this is a nice time of year to go out if you don’t have a boat of your own. Visit our Endorsed Charter Captains page and book yourself on a full or half day trip and catch some for yourself.
