Kids’ Fishing Derby Winners Get Pinned

032818-Isabella JakeAs we near time for our 2018 Kids Freshwater Fishing Derby, it was nice to hear of some of last year’s winners getting recognized for their catch. The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife held their annual Freshwater Sportfishing Awards ceremony on March 17th to recognize anglers who have caught exceptional freshwater fish from waterbodies that are open to the public. Two of the youth Gold Pin winners were Isabella Clark of South Yarmouth and Jake Boskus of Brewster, both winners in the 2017 Goose Hummock Kids Fishing Derby.

032818-Isabellas FishIsabella, 7 1/2 at the time of the contest, checked in some whoppers. Over the Spring school break, she was able to weigh in a 2lb. 3oz. Tiger Trout, a 4lb. 12oz. Brown and a huge 5lb. 4oz., 22 1/2″. Brown Trout that won her the State Pin. The monster she pulled out of Sheeps Pond had an almost 13″ girth. The string of luck also won her 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the Trout division.

032818-JakeJake as been a regular in the Goose for many years. He has one numerous Goose fishing contests as well as State Pins. He has graced the cover of our Outdoor Guide, been featured in our FaceBook posts and is considered a “Junior Pro-Staffer” for the Goose. Jake landed a 7lb. Larry that got him his Gold Pin for the year.

The Division of Fisheries and Wildlife have been doing the contest for over 50 years to support the freshwater fishing community and draw younger anglers into the sport. Here is a link to some more images from this year’s ceremony and the list of 2017 Youth Winners.
