2018 Kids’ Fishing Derby

2017 Winners

The Goose Hummock’s annual tournament starts April 14th

JakeBoskusOnce again, The Goose Hummock is hosting our Kids’ Freshwater Fishing Derby. The tournament has been going on every April school vacation for more than three decades. We are now having past winers bringing in their boys and girls to enter. The memories and love for the sport that were instilled in them 30 years ago are now being passed down.

So, if you have a young angler in your household, this is a great time to get them outdoors, spend some quality time with them and get them hooked on fishing.

Kids can start weighing in fish beginning 9 a.m. Saturday morning, April 14th. They have until 5 p.m. on Friday, April 20th to bring any fish they catch in the designated categories (see below) to be entered. There is no charge for entering and each child will get a free gift bag when they weigh in their first catch. They can log as many fish as they want but all fish must abide by all Massachusetts regulations. WEIGH-INS END AT 5PM EACH DAY. Anglers can be registered when they weigh in their first fish or you can download, print and fill out the entry form and drop it by the Goose anytime. Enrollment Form

Then, on Sunday, April 22nd at 1 p.m., the winners will be announced and presented with trophies and awards in each category at out Awards Celebration right here at the Goose Hummock. It is always a lot of fun and such a joy to see the excitement on the kids’ faces when they watch the fish they caught get weighed in and even more when they get to come up for an award.

Weather the next week and a half will be spotty but this is a great time to start checking your gear, go out and scout a few places and make sure all of your ducks are in a row, so to speak. Many of the ponds in the area have been stocked with Rainbows, Browns and Brook Trout and the bass are starting to come up to shallower real estate for food. This is a great time of year to go pond fishing.

Trophies awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for the heaviest fish weighed in for 4 fish species; Trout, Pickerel, Perch and Bass. Boys and Girls Divisions. All children who weigh in a fish will get a prize.

Trophies awarded for 1st, 2nd & 3rd place for the heaviest fish weighed in for 3 fish species; Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass and Pickerel.

One trophy, winner-take-all for each species; Largemouth Bass & Smallmouth Bass. The anglers may weigh in up to three bass per day, either LMB or SMB, for a total combined weight for the week. One Prize for each species going to the angler with the highest total weight.

Good luck.
