2018 Kids Contest Results

All had fun, in spite of the weather

31093500_1651379578310735_8744664939250931839_nWell it wasn’t the nicest of weeks we’ve had for an April break, but that didn’t stop a lot of local kids from getting out to the freshwater ponds and logging in some nice fish for our 2018 Kids Freshwater Fishing Derby. In case you are unaware, every Spring, for decades, the Goose Hummock has run the contest to give local kids that don’t go away for the break something to do. We are proud to say that we are now getting parents who are entering their kids tell us of times they remember participating in the contest themselves as kids. We are so pleased to be a part of passing down the love of fishing from one generation to another.

Weigh-ins started Saturday morning of the 14th and ran to Friday afternoon of the 20th, culminating in our awards presentation here at the shop on Sunday. There were nearly 50 participants this year with almost 20 state pins being awarded. Right from the start, several fish were checked on the the opening bell. We were off to a slow but respectable start considering the chilly temps we had been having. The girls, once again this year, proved to be strong competitors, weighing in the first 5 or 6 fish. The Peters sisters were one of the first with little Stephie’s bass landing her a 2nd place trophy in the Minnow Division. Later on, the boys were heard from as they started bringing in their catch. Kids of all ages were entered, as young as 3-years-old, like little Paisley Brunnell, pictured here, taking second place in the Pickerel class of the Minnow division. Please see the list of all or the winners below.

It takes a lot of work to run our yearly contest and we could not have done it again this year with out Store Manager Dan Jones and his trained staff of pros, Simeon Watson, Capt. Chris Nashville, Sam Brown, Jada Reis and our photographer/videographer Tyler Adams. And of course, we’d like to thanks our sponsors, St. Croix Rods, Tsunami Tackle, Berkley Baits, Zebco Reels, Southern Connecticut Tackle, and TheMightyFish.com Tackle Company for gift bags and prizes. And a huge thanks to all of the parents out there who, every year, take this chance to share the love of fishing and the outdoors with their children.

Now, for your viewing enjoyment, please watch the following video of this year’s awards ceremony. Tight Lines!

THANK YOU
