  This past Sunday, April 23rd, The Goose Hummock Shop in Orleans, held its awards presentation for the winners of the 2017 Kids’ Freshwater Fishing Tournament held every year during Spring school vacation. The contest was run by Store Manager Dan Jones with the aid of the rest of Team Goose and emceed by Goose Owner, Capt. Phil Howarth.  Danny said that this year’s contestants ranged in age from 2 to 18 with over 47 fish qualifying for State pins, including a 5 pound 4 ounce Brown Trout caught by 7-year-old Isabella Clark of South Yarmouth.   Prizes were award in three divisions; “Minnows” for ages 1-10 years, in both boys and girls groups for Trout, Pickerel, Perch and Bass. “Schoolies” for ages 11-14, boys and girls combined for Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass and Pickerel. And the “Keeper” division for ages 15-18 years of age. This “Bass Master” division was a winner take all for the combined total of either Largemouth or Smallmouth Bass for the entire week. All fish were weighed in live and safely released to the ponds from which they came.

  The Goose Hummock Kids’ Freshwater Fishing Tournament is a yearly event held during the week of April school vacation held by the Goose and our fellow sponsors Daddy Mac Lures, Okuma Fishing U.S.A., Yo-Zuri Fishing, Southern Connecticut Tackle, Zebco Fishing, St. Croix Rods and Folsum Fishing.
